Mbare Chimurenga Choir hits hard times

HARARE - Mbare Chimurenga Choir has hit hard times.

The group, which romped to fame through their butt-wriggling moves and fiercely pro-Zanu PF songs, is struggling to raise money to record a new album.

Elizabeth Bwanya, founder of the 48-member group told the Daily News last week that members have contributed a few dollars each from their vending business in order to record their fourth album Bhora Mugedhi (Ibhola Egedini).

The album -— meant to celebrate Mugabe’s crushing victory — is scheduled to be released soon, if enough cash is raised.

“Mbare Chimurenga mainly comprises of vegetable and hardware vendors operating in Mbare Musika hence every member of the group contributes about $15 each time we record music,” Bwanya said.

“Our contributions at times will not be enough to cater for recordings as on average our albums carry at least 10 tracks.

“In return, we only realise a few dollars which can only be enough to buy soap after selling our CDs.”

Bwanya’s group initially had 67 members before it was rocked by splits.

“Some of our members walked away from the group in pursuit of greener pastures, groups such as Mabvuku Chimurenga Choir and Yemurai among others all came from Mbare Chimurenga and I am happy that we are spreading wings across the country,” said the 51-year-old vendor.

The group has three audio albums and DVDs under their wings and these are Nyatsoterera of 2009, Simukai Tiverengane and Gushungo Excellent.

Bwanya pleaded with well-wishers for sponsorship.

“I know people out there do not believe that all the money we used for recordings came from our pockets, no one ever sponsored us,” Bwanya said.

“So let me take this opportunity to invite all well-wishers and sponsors.”

Bwanya said they relied solely on money raised from CD sales.

“Soon we will be embarking on holding live concerts in order to survive otherwise we will reach nowhere,” she said.

“We only did live concerts on national galas, so to our fans we are coming there.”

Gushungo will be chipping in any time now. He loves these butt lickers, I mean butt wrigglers.

Why dont they get cash from ZanuPF or Mugabe? Or maybe the millions of ZanuPF supporters who voted can chip in to raise enough for a seemingly worthy cause. While others are celebrating the so called victory with brand new Mercs plus Jeep Cherokees, these vendors think they are actually doing something good. ZanuPF inoshandisa ichisvipa.

So if you are crying and you were the mobilizers for zanu pf, who is enjoying the Zanu victory? Get employment from Zanu. A very big question, who voted for this party when everyone is crying? Maybe they can go to Dotito and play there.
