ZNA officers' divorce turns nasty

HARARE - A Zimbabwe National Army officer who married and remarried within the force has dragged her first husband to court on allegations of verbal abuse.

Chipo Saruchera, now married to Brigadier General Satu, told the court that her former husband Gift Saruchera was in the habit of insulting and spreading rumours about her at their work place.

Saruchera had applied that her former husband be barred from her place of residence and offices.

“He is always insulting and spreading bad words about me at work. One of our children passed away recently and he blamed me, he calls me a witch,” she said.

Saruchera denied the allegations and said he was cross because his ex-wife’s current husband was tampering with their late daughter’s property.

“Our daughter died days before elections and I assembled my family and told them that we would share property after elections since I would be busy,” he said.

“I surrendered the deceased’s property to one of my children but I was surprised to find Chipo’s husband Brigadier General Satu, driving my late daughter’s car when I returned from electoral duties.”

“I never insulted anyone but ordered that he desist from tampering with the property. I was surprised to be served to come to court since I never perpetrated any act of violence towards her.”

Presiding magistrate Tatenda Manhanzva granted the order and advised the ex-husband to refrain from behaviour that infringes on the ex-wife’s peace.

“I have granted the protection order because there is probability of infringement of peace since respondent has admitted to confronting you.

“However, I cannot bar him from visiting the Defence House, nor the offices because he also works there,” she said.
