Mum dumps baby at hubby's workplace

HARARE - A Harare woman dumped her child at her boyfriend’s workplace in a bid to force him to give her money.

Chiedza Muchono said she dumped the child to show her  former boyfriend Farai Chinokwetu “how serious I am about the money,” she told the Harare Civil Court yesterday.

“He doesn’t want to give me money the child and I dumped her at his workplace to make him realise the gravity of the matter.

“I want him to understand how hard it is to raise a child,” she said.

Chinokwetu made a peace order application and said Muchono visited his workplace and used obscene language in his employer’s presence.

“She used to be my girlfriend and we had a child together. I provide everything for the upkeep of my child but she is never satisfied,” he said.

“She comes to my workplace demanding money and dumps the baby. I now fear for my job because my boss won’t tolerate her unruly behaviour.”

The court heard Chinokwetu would spend hours off work negotiating with Muchono to accept the baby back.
“I often have to spend hours off work trying to negotiate her accepting the baby. The first time she dumped the baby at work and I had to negotiate with her neighbour,” she said.

“The second time she threw the baby into my car while I was reversing and on the latest occasion I spent eight hours with the baby at a police station waiting for her.”

Presiding magistrate Olivia Mariga granted the order and advised Muchono to desist from action that threatens the security of her child.
