Makoto bags another title

HARARE – Zimbabwe International Master Rodwell Makoto added another trophy to his cabinet when he won the Accountancy @UJ Open Prestige Section chess tournament recently in South Africa.

Makoto finished tied on first position together with Zambia’s Andrew Kayende after they all tallied five points from six games.

Other Zimbabwe chess players present at the tournament, Spencer Masango, Takaedza Chipanga and International Master Kudzanai Mamombe all failed to impress.

Mamombe finished with one point while Masango and Chipanga finished with four and three points respectively.

Makoto said the tournament was very tough and he is happy to have bagged the title.

“It was a tough tournament for me since I was the highest rated player in the section. I had to protect my rating points,” Makoto told the Daily News yesterday.

Makoto believes this will be the last tournament for him this year as he is trying to finish his studies.

“I think this is my last tournament this year. I am not able to continue participating in upcoming events this year because I am busy with my studies. Unless a huge tournament comes up maybe I will change my mind,” he said.
