Flame Lily, ZRP Morris clash

HARARE – The battle for supremacy between the uniformed forces in the Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) reaches boiling point when ZRP Morris and Flame Lily clash at Morris Depot Wednesday.

Flame Lily have been blowing hot and cold this season but they still find themselves in a respectable position, trailing log leader ZPC Kariba by just three points.

The Zimbabwe Prison Services team has a 12-point cushion over Morris, but the police outfit has three games in hand.

“You know Morris is unpredictable anything can happen. I told my boys that they must not underrate them but I just hope we get a good result,” Flame Lily coach Ralph Kawondera told the Daily News.

Kawondera explained the importance of winning in this afternoon’s encounter.

"It's a must-win game for us. We can’t afford to drop any more points at this stage because battles for supremacy entails that whoever wants to be the champion, has to work their way through.

“We don't have to put ourselves under pressure because if we do so it will affect our performance. So taking every game as it comes will be the only logical way to go."

Kawondera, however, said it was still early to talk about promotion in the Premiership.

“For the championship there is still a long way to go. All the top eight teams are in the reckoning for promotion into the Premier League,” he added.

The ZPS outfit, who now boast of some former Premiership players in their ranks, have bright chances of promotion into the top flight league.

Veteran goalkeeper Edmore Hamandishe and former Dynamos defender Dominic Benati are some of the players who now turn-out for the Flame Lily.
