Roadport currency dealer jailed

HARARE - A 29-year-old woman who duped her clients at Roadport Bus Terminus that she could get them South African rands at a lower rate has been jailed for an effective two years.

Memory Museza pleaded guilty to fraud charges when she appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.

Gofa had sentenced Museza to four years behind bars but suspended six months for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Another 18 months were suspended on condition that Museza restitutes her clients the $19 000 that she took from them.

The court heard that on July 12, Museza approached six of her clients at Roadport Bus Station and lied to them that she had found a dealer who was selling rands at a lower rate, before taking $19 000 from them.

After collecting the money Museza switched off her mobile phone and moved from her place of residence, leaving her clients stranded without their money.
