Food crisis looming in Zim

HARARE - The United Nations food agency says Zimbabwe is facing “a looming food crisis” with 2,2 million people — one in four of the rural population — expected to need emergency aid in coming months.

The UN World Food Programme said yesterday additional food handouts will start next month and will be scaled up until the next harvests in March.

The agency said rising hunger, mostly in southern districts, was caused by erratic weather, the high cost and shortages of seed and fertiliser in the troubled economy and a 15 percent rise in prices for the corn staple after poor harvests this year.

In years of political and economic turmoil, Zimbabwe needed regular food handouts. About 1,4 million people in the population of 13 million received food aid last year.

Didn't the UN hear Mr Mugabe saying Zim. should be left alone? So, do it, and let Zim. feed itself.

Its so frightening that when the objective truth is being told Zanu PF runs intio a defensive mood. The truth here is that this year people will need foodhandouts from the Well wishers. We can not feed ourselves.People do not eat patriotism, sovereignity and natinalism people eat food. The very people who are eating and their bellies are full are the same who are denying those who are hungry and not hungry. What a pity. Its a country for the chosen few. They eat (wosura on our behalf) and they hit and silence us when we complain of the smell.Cry our beloved Zimbabwe. We depend on South Africa to employ and feed our people.Poor u shortsighted countrymen who are coerced to attend all national ceremonies yet you can not give your own relatives decent burials.
