Lawmakers sworn-in

HARARE - Members of the National Assembly were sworn in this morning amidst pomp and fanfare.

Austin Zvoma, the clerk of Parliament, presided over the swearing in ceremony.

Lawmakers later elected Jacob Mudenda and Mabel Chinomona as the speaker of national assembly and deputy speaker respectively.

Mudenda and Chinomona took an oath of office before Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku.

MDC members absconded the election of the presiding officers who were elected unopposed.

The National Assembly was overcrowded with some of the legislators standing in the corridor during the ceremony.

In Zimbabwe unemployment is seating at a nauseating 90% and has been this high for over a decade already. Mugabe rigged himself back into power over a month ago and yet he is still to appoint his cabinet. He does not seem to be aware of the country's economic crisis and the urgency of the situation or it is simply that he does not care!.
