Macheso triggers bread 'rush'

HARARE - Two Chinhoyi supermarkets recorded brisk business selling bread after Bakers Inn brand ambassador Alick Macheso, made surprise courtesy calls on Thursday.

After learning that they stood to get an extra loaf and an autograph from the sungura star, many Chinhoyi residents thronged OK and TM supermarkets where they hoped to interact with the hugely popular Macheso.

The Tafadzwa singer, who was in the Mashonaland West capital to grace the official opening of the Bakers Inn Chinhoyi Depot, stirred excitement in the sleepy town.

Macheso has now fully recovered from a leg injury sustained after spraining his right ankle during a show in Guruve in June.

The energetic bassist and singer thrilled the crowd with a well-choreographed performance in which he gave snippets of his forthcoming album Zva-zvinhu.

The crowd was blown away by the song Ane Bhora Ndiye Anomakwa which appears to take a swipe at band members who deserted him to form a new group called Extra Kwazvose.

Macheso also performed songs like Shedia, Tafadzwa and Macharangwanda proving he overcame the recent setbacks of losing key band members.

Douglas Magonya, Bakers Inn head of sales, told the Daily News that his company is happy with the relationship they have with Macheso as their brand ambassador.

“The beauty of our partnership is that both Bakers Inn and Macheso are both big brands no wonder why our relationship is yielding great results.

“We are looking forward to having a long-lasting relationship with Macheso,” said Magonya.

The newly-opened Chinhoyi Bakers Inn Depot will serve fresh bread in areas like Chirundu, Magunje, Mhangura and Mutorashanga.
