Young Igwe reluctant to take back Shiga Shiga

HARARE - Utakataka Express front-man Peter Moyo is reluctant to take back Gift Katulika aka Shiga Shiga saying he is more comfortable working with band members who stood by him through thick and thin.

The young Igwe spoke to the Daily News yesterday from his Kwekwe base after speculation that the youthful musician is considering taking back the ex-Utakataka member who ditched him to join Energy Mutodi’s sungura outfit.

“Even though the door is still open for them to come back, honestly, I am more satisfied working with those members who stood with me through thick and thin,”  the Mushonga Mukuru singer said.

“The group I have today sacrificed a lot for the betterment of the band, so taking those who  departed back can be interpreted not appreciating the efforts being made by the current group.” Moyo said he never invited Shiga Shiga to re-join him.

“Shiga joined us on stage at President Robert Mugabe’s inauguration fiesta last week and I asked the crowd about the idea of taking him back.

“However we never discussed a deal of this sort and like I said I am satisfied with my band members and taking him back can cause tensions within the group,” said Moyo.

Katulika ditched the Kwekwe-based outfit soon after the death of Tongai Moyo.

Shiga Shiga together with other band members such as Spencer Khumulani joined the flamboyant Mutodi’s band where they signed a five-year contract.

Following his move to Mutodi Express, Shiga Shiga ruled out ever going back to Utakataka Express, but he might be forced to eat his words.

“I can do everything but I do not see myself going back to Utakataka Express,” said Katulika then.

“I can join other groups in Zimbabwe but not Utakataka Express, of course. I love the group and I can join it on stage whenever I want but this does not mean I do this to seek employment,” he said.

Shiga said: “I will never go back to Utakataka Express, no matter how hard the situation might be at Mutodi Stars I will continue to fight until things are fine.

“I am like a soldier, no going back, but to fight.”
