Wife assaults hubby

HARARE - A Harare man has asked for a protection order against his wife who allegedly assaults and verbally abuses him.

Nyangera Mugova told the court that his wife Sheila Vareta assaults him and threatens to get a warrant of arrest for him.

“I have not known peace for a long time now. My wife is abusive and uses different objects to assault me,” Mugova said.

“She was recently granted a maintenance order and threatens to apply for a warrant of arrest if I report the domestic violence.”

Vareta denied the allegations and told the court that her husband and his family were the ones perpetrating violence against her.

“Everything he said is a lie,” she said. “I do not have the guts to assault him because he is very aggressive.

“He actually stole the maintenance order and our baby’s medical cards though he knew she was due for a hernia operation. His mother claims I have Aids and that I passed it to our child.

“I am actually the one who should be given a protection order because I am convinced he might leave me seriously injured or dead one day.”

Presiding magistrate Tatenda Manhanzva granted the order in favour of Mugova and advised the two to live in peace.

“This could have been a perfect place to grant a reciprocal order because it is clear that both parties are perpetrating acts of violence towards each other, but since it is no longer applicable I will grant the protection order,” Manhanzva said.
