We're well placed: Zambia

HARARE – Following last weekend’s goalless draw against the Zimbabwe, Zambia feel they are well on course to qualify for the Chan finals in South Africa next year.

The Football Association of Zambia (Faz) has however warned Chipolopolo to guard against complacency when they take on the Warriors in the second leg at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday.

Faz vice-president Boniface Mwamelo told a Zambian publication in an interview that their first leg result in Harare gave Chipolopolo the impetus to go for an outright win at the weekend.

The two teams battled to a goalless draw in the rescheduled first leg at Rufaro Stadium in Harare, and Mwamelo has cautioned Herve Renard’s men not to relax.

“We are a foot into the 2014 Chan finals and all we need to do is to kill off this fixture by beating Zimbabwe at home, otherwise a draw is not bad,” Mwamelo told the Times of Zambia.

“Players should remain focused and work hard ahead of the return leg this weekend in order to complete the job. As things stand right now, we are well placed to qualify for the finals next year.”

Hosts South Africa and 12 other countries have already qualified for the 2014 Chan finals, leaving just three slots up for grabs.
