Billiat finally signs for Sundowns

JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns completed the signing of Zimbabwe international Khama Billiat from Ajax Cape Town on Monday.

The Brazilians have off-loaded striker Eleazar Rodgers to Ajax on a season-long loan deal as part of the transfer, which had looked as though it had collapsed last week.

After Ajax and Sundowns agreed a transfer fee two weeks ago, Billiat and the Chloorkop-based side failed to find common ground on his personal terms.

It led to Ajax calling off the deal late last week, though it was resurrected when Sundowns were able to make a breakthrough in their negotiations with the player.

“It is great to have a player of the calibre of Billiat on board, and clearly competition for a starting berth will be massive. This can only lead to a competitive spirit that is so critical in any team,” Sundowns spokesman Kabelo Mosito told the club's website.

Billiat arrived at Ajax in 2010 from CAPS United in his homeland, making 81 starts and scoring 25 goals for the club in all competitions. – Agencies
