ZETDC employees up for $20 000 theft

HARARE - Two Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) employees were yesterday arraigned before the courts on charges of theft.

They allegedly stole equipment worth more than $20 000.

Jerifanos Singende and Shandirai Zongororo were not asked to plead when they appeared before magistrate Anita Tshuma.

Allegations are that sometime in July this year, the two, acting in connivance with two others who are still at large, planned to steal electrical equipment from their employer.

It is alleged that between July 16 and 22 at ZETDC Borrowdale depot, the duo stole an 80-metre by 185 millimetre KV cable and a Ring Main Unit switch.

The court heard after the alleged theft, Singende, using Zongororo’s company Series Technology Pvt (Ltd), sold the property to Tiivangani Muringani for $20 800.

Muringani, who is the director of Spear Tec Electrical Pvt (Ltd), had been contracted by Innscor to install a power sub-station at their Julius Nyerere Way shop in the city centre.

The offence was discovered after a tip-off, prompting them check the site and discovered  their property was missing.
