Shabanie complete Buffaloes double

ZVISHAVANE – Shabanie Mine completed a double over Buffaloes with a deserved 2-0 win at Maglas Stadium in the Castle Premiership match on Thursday.

Goals from Tarisai Rukanda and Pervington Zimunya were enough for Shabanie to continue with their fine run.

Shabanie won 3-1 in the reverse fixture and the man who was instrumental in that win at Sakubva Stadium, Fungai Chirinda, put up a stellar performance yesterday, getting the opener in the eighth minute, connecting a cross from Eria Phiri.

The Chinda Boys won the ball from the left and Phiri beat two Buffaloes players before squaring the ball to Chirinda, who sold a dummy to his marker before slotting the ball to the right corner beyond the reach of diving Buffaloes goalkeeper Blessing Mwandimutsira.

Buffaloes could have found their equaliser in the 49th minute when Admire Dzumbunu left William Ngonya sprawling on the ground before releasing a cross that Jacob Muzokomba, who was far lurking unmarked on the far side, failed to connect.

Buffaloes were deservedly punished for failing to utilise chances in 54th minute through Zimunya’s penalty.

Themba Ndlovu pulled down Zimunya inside the box and referee Munyaradzi Majoni rightly pointed to the spot and Zimunya took the responsibility to send Mwandimutsira the wrong side.

Buffaloes’s miserable afternoon was capped by substitute Prince Mudau’s terrible miss. Mudau directed his header at Twaliki off an Admire Dzumbunu cross.

“I am pleased with the result because we did not lose our rhythm during the break. It’s pleasing to win despite the financial challenges that we have,” Shabanie coach Luke Masomere said after the match.
