GMB fails to pay workers

HARARE - The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has failed to pay its 3 600 employees, with the disgruntled workers blaming management for abuse of funds.

GMB prides itself in being the dura or granary of Zimbabwe.

“They delayed in paying our June salaries and as I speak to you now we have not yet been paid our July salaries but the bosses are driving these new, fancy cars,” fumed one worker who requested anonymity.

“Before July ended, the deputy general  manager human resources Sibongile Mucherahondo sent us memos promising they would pay us by today (yesterday). But recently they sent us another  memo telling us they could no longer pay us on the 7th as they did not have the funds.

“The general manager Albert Mandizha bought himself a sleek Range Rover, while the rest of us are suffering because we don’t have salaries,” another worker fumed.

Efforts to get a comment from Mandizha were fruitless as he was said to be locked in meetings, with the GMB corporate communications department requesting questions in writing, which were sent to them.

According to the workers, GMB management had bought themselves 30 top-of-the-range Toyota D4D off-road vehicles, at a time the company was failing to raise funds for salaries.

Its a very painfull thing for person to work the whole month and you don't get paid ,Or by the way l had forgot is this the same GMB that employed war vets & the MILITIA IN 2008 .lf these people are that group them l think they deserve it ,Your money went to ZANU campagns you will get paid in DECEMBER that is if you are lucky but l know you will make a plan ZANU supporters are survivers .

CASHTALK - 9 August 2013

l think it is very selfish and inconsiderate for someone to fail their workers who are doing such a great job in trying to make GMB a success while you go out there and use their pay to buy luxury and things that you know are certainly unneccessary. well some people might see a leader and a manager but l see a man who is very selfish and corrupt. A man must reap what he sows and its an obvious thing that if someone is working for you as your employee you pay them you dont let them work for nothing . who buys cars with someone else's pay l begin to question if this so called "Albert Mandizha is even educated nothing he does show intelligence or progress. GMB is headed for disaster if this man continues to be the manager and l wonder whats keeping him on the seat. well someone is doing some bribing and its definitely working but it wont work for long. you might have a contract but careful mr you might end up in the streets begging.
