'Dynamos in no rush'

HARARE - Dynamos insist they are not in any hurry to appoint an assistant coach following the resignation of Tonderai Ndiraya this week, saying head coach Calisto Pasuwa will make the decision.

Ndiraya, who has also served the club as a player, quit his post as Pasuwa’s number two after irreconcilable differences with his boss.

The rift between the two former Dynamos players has been widening for some time now.

It however reached a point of no return on Tuesday after Pasuwa wrote a letter to the Dynamos executive asking them to re-deploy Ndiraya within the club’s structures.

When the news reached him, Ndiraya then resigned, giving the diplomatic excuse of wanting to further his studies.

“We have accepted Ndiraya’s resignation, so he is no longer with us,” Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa told the Daily News yesterday.

On whether the Dynamos executive had considered Pasuwa’s recommendation, Mubaiwa said:

“Yes, we saw that recommendation but to us it was not making sense that we appoint Tonde to other structures because in the end Pasuwa is still the head of the technical team and one way or the other they will still be working together. So we decided to just accept his resignation.”

Sources close to the club say although Pasuwa and Ndiraya had their differences, a certain member of the technical staff had fuelled discontent between the two parties.

Despite their differences, Pasuwa and Ndiraya had steered the Glamour Boys to back-to-back league titles as well as two straight Mbada Diamonds Cups.

Mubaiwa said Ndiraya’s departure was a big blow to the club.

“It’s a blow, it will affect us morally, it will affect the players but there is nothing we can do,” he said, before calling on the players to desist from factionalism.

“Players should not get involved in the politics of the executive or the technical team, they should concentrate on training and playing, that’s their core business.”
