Tsvangirai must focus on next election

HARARE - The election marathon is now over and we all know now who gets what medal.

The pitch I hear from the MDC leadership is that Zanu PF stole the election.

They rigged! Please sons and daughters of the soil let’s not be stupid. In this short article in simple language I aim to talk to the MDC leadership led by Morgan Tsvangirai and not their ordinary membership.

Stop selling to your membership and the world this rigging dummy of the elections.

You do not need to, because you led your membership to this battle well aware that all the necessary reforms were not in place for a free and fair result.

You decided not to lead your membership to a protest at that point but to play because you were taking chances that you would win. Infact you were convinced that you would win.

If you had won by President Mugabe’s margin, would you be saying the election was rigged? Would you be saying that you stole the election to win it by this margin?

When you won the elections outright in 2008 and you had a valid case in your hands you decided not to call your membership to protest at that point and you aim to sell that to them today when you have lost with these shocking margins.

Are you serious politicians or serious political activists or you are confusing the two? There are points in the struggle when protesting was very ideal for the MDC but all those opportunities were lost.

When some people failed to register to participate in the election is one such opportunity.

You should have protested at that point but you did not. Now is not the time.

To Roy Bennett, please do not take Zimbabweans for granted. Your party lost these elections the day you went into the inclusive government and focused on wanting to look like Zanu PF while disconnecting yourselves from the people’s daily struggles.

Some of your councillors did not even want tea with biscuits at committee meetings. They wanted six piece take away foods.

Those in Parliament went close to toyi-toying because they wanted cars similar to those Zanu PF had.

Your councillors played the “we are the smart ones game” with residents auctioning their properties over rates they could not afford blaming it on Zanu PF.

You Roy as an MDC leader remained silent so did the rest of them.

Now you want the same people you did not protect during their time of need to go to the streets to protest that you have lost!!

Whose child do you want to be beaten up to a pulp by the riot police? Beaten to get people to positions so that they can auction their properties?

Get serious Roy. Your party lost elections a long time ago and not on July 31.

MDC leaders; you do not have to like Mugabe or vote for him but there is a lot you can learn when it comes to political leadership.

When his party lost to yours in 2008 he called all his membership and told them that they were in the inclusive marriage because they had lost the election to your party and that they should go back to re-organise the party, address the challenges that led to them losing and go out and re-engage the people to win the elections to get themselves out of the situation.

They did and have hit back so hard that you think they rigged or stole the vote. He did not blame anyone for the loss of his party. That is political leadership. You lead to win elections by all means possible.

Look at your lot now behaving like political activists blaming Zanu PF and Mugabe for your heavy election loss. You don’t need to do that unless you are just a bunch of activists who want to use some political environment to raise attention and sympathy of those that can pay for your activism.

Unfortunately, Zimbabweans don’t see you as such. They look up to you for serious political leadership to change their lives for the better. You have let them down.

You know very well like we all know that in an election all you have to do is win and form a government to implement your policies.

I expect you to be accepting your loss and sharing it with all your membership at this point, regrouping your leadership and evaluating what you did wrong and why that led to your loss. Don’t worry about what Zanu PF did wrong for you to lose the election.

You know for sure there is not going to be another election next month just because you are screaming to the last member that this one was rigged.

You know you can scream to the end of the world but it won’t change that Zanu PF will form a government.

One has no need to scream about the voters’ roll after they lose the election. You do so before you contest the election.

It’s time to forget what went on in this election particularly if you lost it and focus on what role you will play in challenging the policies of those that won and are in government.

How you will expose corruption, bad policies, bad governance, abuse of State assets, inefficiency and so on? In the process you continue to promote your manifesto for the next election.

The next election is not far off.

Five years in governance is a very short time hence other people want to stay in there forever hoping to finish what they begun. Your party is full of young positive people who have so much time ahead of them and you don’t need to make them cry over some spilt election water.

There are great lessons that you can learn from this loss that can make your party come out stronger in the next election.

You put up an excellent fight and you should be congratulating yourselves and membership for that.

The young people in your party can re-organise, focus and win the next election in a very big way and achieve for Zimbabwe what they set out to achieve for the country many years ago.

Going on about this stupid song of rigging will only serve to make great fighters like you look stupid.

Looking at the numbers if any person had to rig they could not do it in a week or even in a month.

They would have planned it for a very long time to get it working so well just in a day.

If you as MDC leaders who were part of the government with your competitors Zanu PF failed to uncover the national plot well before the election Day, then I would be very wary for Zimbabwe to be led by that quality of such security blind leaders unless you are admitting that Zanu PF did it while you were fast asleep.

In that case then they are better off governing Zimbabwe than your lot. Let’s not be stupid.

My Mozambique hero Samora Machel would say to his membership and forces at times like these, Aluta Continua and every one would pick themselves up and move on to the winning line.

So can you without this funny chorus on rigging.

What are you saying? How do you move forward if the present is pinning you down? You meaning he should ignore the cheating and say okay,we will see next time. What is wrong is wrong. You need to to stand up for what is right. What Zimbaweans lack is steadfastness. We just accept situations and say lets move forward? Zim will never move forward if we have deafitist attitudes.

Wabaya dede nemukanwa. Journalist have also contributed to the downfall of Tsvangirayi by not telling him the truth. It was praise praise praise when he was doing the wrong things. Dai mainyora like this angadai akachinja maitiro maybe he would have won the election.

madhaka - 7 August 2013

you see this article is utter hogwash.i just read 2 paragraphs and am sorry I cant finish. Morgan is doing this for us in a peaceful manner,no need for demos. Hey Cont, Morgan was going to win this election by 80% had it not been the dancing, mutating ballot by Nikuv. The electoral field aside, the threats by military junta aside, The propaganda aside, Morgan won the elections

Adrianne - 7 August 2013

@ Adrianne: all your statements are here say no proof what so ever so i guess you are i la la land,.,.no word of people being forced by military before the elections,.,.the word was peaceful in all parts of the media, if the military was terrorizing people we would have heard about it in a minute with the so called technology you bragged about before. whatsapp, face book etc,.,. but amazingly all these things come after the elections please accept defeat,.,..Tsvangson akadyiwa fair and square. it's naive for you to think that Zanu has no more support that's how these elections were lost

Bhururu - 7 August 2013

true say he should knw he has people to represent in constistuencies that his party won he need to tel hiss members not to be complacent because that has cost him this election

hala - 7 August 2013

Tsvangirai should focus on next elections? I should hope not! If the MDC wants to be taken seriously as a "democratic" party, it should practice what it preaches and elect a new leader. If the MDC's logic is that Mugabe must go because he has failed and overstayed, the same logic should be applied to the ex-Prime Minister.

Random Chibaka - 7 August 2013

Tsvangirai is the only one who can bring change to the lives of struggling Zimabweans.Who can stand to oppose that after he saved you from the 2007-8 plight.Instead of supporting him you are uttering rubbish-fools!

LUK - 7 August 2013

well hammered article in 2008 when Mugabe lost he did not blame anyone and he knew that his party had weakened and after the elections he reorganised and corrected his mistakes and the party got back on its feet. This is why Zanu pf won these elections, on the other hand when the Mdc got into govt they relaxed and forgot to cater for the people whom they made various promises.Mdc had all the chance to outshine Zanu pf by improving the water and energy crisis.address civil servants' grievances and reviving industries because they had all the strategic ministries at their helm. The Mdc squandered this opportunity thinking no one would for Zanu pf because it had failed for the past 33 years. The electorate realized that the Mdc was a party bent on promises which are never fulfilled due to its failure to improve livelihoods as promised to happen once they get into govt.

may the writer pliz advise our western part of the nation to think with their heads like the rest of the country on national leadership. Sadly, we don't see progressive minds forming a new government that will usher development on that part of the country. Stop this vote pahasha and think collectively for the betterment of your next generations.

cont - 7 August 2013

this is an unbiased article from dailynews. Mdc Leader overrated his support base. he did think of registration, voters role, mobilisation of his supporters, he imposed candidates to protect his friends like what zanupf did in 2008, had sex scandals, did not open companies as he promised electorate soon after inauguration as PM, he said he will incorporate human rights issues like gays when elected, has no clear policy as to how jobs will be created but only to say our rich friends will pour millions of USA, ko kana vakasazotipa, corruption of councillors and mps. He also underrated the strength of his opponent to the extent of entering into a competition he thinks to be a flawed one. Zanu has its support base from Rural areas. They are like fish and water since before independence. He was supposed to have major campaigns in those areas. The margin is too big to challenge. even if he take assumed 500 000 pple turned away plus Ncube's, Dabengwa's plus Kidznet's, still Tsvangirai will be beaten.

simba - 7 August 2013

There was 7 weeks campaign period from the announcing of the poll date, guess what, mdc-T spent 6 weeks and 6 days fighting for the postponement of the election. Question is: when did they campaign? Moving around the country complaining was a big let down. Foolish Tsvangirai

Mundamurefu - 7 August 2013

when zanu jongwe dont agree with you, they resort to violence. when MDC dont agree with you they resort to name calling. this article tells exactly the weaknesses of this party which had transformed to being an elitist grouping. they got what they deserved!!!!

Black Crow - 7 August 2013

MDC-T is a cry baby. They waste energy on minor things. In most cases, they have the winning cards but unfortunately they dont have any thinktanks and strategists to use those cards well to capitalise and win. This article is the best ever I have ready from this paper. Thank you for this one. Morgan should read it and keep it if he has to win in any election to come. MDC-T lacks a feedback system, they make too many assumptions and get distructed by minor things. E.g. the scrapping of water and rates debts by Chombo towards elections, its distructed MDC-T to focus on what was not important. Chombo new he was killing two birds with one stone, enticing the electorate and confusing MDC-T. I rest my case

Mukuruvambwa - 7 August 2013

To this stupid journalist i say in which country do you stay are you a true reporter or you pretending to be, am sorry all that you have said it's utter rubbish. Tsvangirai is our true hero from 1999 till he gets into power and what he is doing now is the right thing to get what belongs to him diplomatically and we are a civilised party, Don't you know that ZANU POLICE is just waiting for a silly excuse then pounce on the opposition, we don't want our leaders to be BUTCHERED like last time, the zanu thugs want to eliminate our leaders so that they can be opposed with: NCUBE (the zanu agent), DABENGWA, MUKWAZHI, MAKONI who don't pose any SERIOUS OPPOSITINAL THREAT unlike SAVE (TSVANGIRAI) How many zanu murderes are walking free in this country then you are accusing MDC-TEAM of not being an organised opposition, Don't you know that chihuri and zanu controls said they won't arrest any zanu violent thugs so we waiting for our turn so that we can employ PROPER ZIMBABWEAN POLICE FORCE not this currect zanu thug force. in short to the journalist, the rigging was done without the knowledge of the MDC-TEAM because they don't control any security dept have you forgotten that MUDEDE once refused to issue PRESIDENT TSVANGIRAI with a passport and you would also want to ble mcd-t? wake up & shut up you idiot & stupid zanu

EARTHQUAKE31JULY - 7 August 2013

So what this guy is trying to tell us is that mdc lost elections which were not fair ,he is saying tsvangirai should have boycoted with other mdc waiting to take that chance and participate can't u c that mdc-t was fighting aganst 2 enermies after the elections what did the other mdc said nothing , this guy should learn to get his facts right. last time it took more than a month for a wel funded ZEC T to anounce election results but a far less funded one did it in less than 5 days becoz the results were predetemined.if u think i am lying look at the number of votes that morgan and link it to parliamentary results do the same for mugabe repeat the same procedure on 2008 elections which were close to fair you wil discover somthing that wil surprise u. in all the cases assume that an electrorate vote the same political party for both apresident and a parliament ,my friend numbers do not lie.

xyz - 7 August 2013

Tsvangson should focus not on thee next election but just exit the political arena. Over the years he has proven to be a pathetic politician when push comes to shove. The main reason for this is his lack of education. Idofo. He should go back to school and start afresh. His party needs a new leader to take them to the next level as he has failed dismally.

pretty - 8 August 2013

Anyone who thinks zanu pf can ever be removed from power through elections is dreaming. U fortunately its very difficult to plan for contigencies when you are dealing with mad people. I magine going into a boxing match where the opponent ends up pulling out a knife. More like WWE wrestling. The reason why wrestlers from this stable are not recognised by sports associations like the olympics is becoz theirs is not proper wrestling. Tyson was banned from boxing for biting Evander hollyfield's ear and Cont wants us to accept broad daylight theft from zanu pf in a farce of an election.something happened in zimbabwe and produced something but it clearly was not an election.

magame - 8 August 2013

no matter how dismal MDC might have performed in the just stolen election, i dont and will never dumb my party simply because of a lost battle, the war is not over yet. real supporters will stand by their team in winning and in losing. Pamberi nehondo varume, one day Zanu Pfutseke will go, is it made of granite or humans, they will die one day and with their poor succession strategies, one day they will be out of office. Tsvangrai must and will stay on as leader until he deposes this wicked regime, just like Mandela who stayed at the helm of ANC many years only to step down after the party won the race. Asijiki!

mdc patriot - 8 August 2013

zimbabwe needs people who truly love it more than they love their political parties coz the way i see it both the two parties failed to work efectively together but just waiting for the elections. showing people are more committed to parties rather than Zimbabwe.. where are the true sons of Zimbabwe. even when you hear people arguing you can tell they defend their party even when it has done wrong.its time to tell each other the truth as Zimbabweans!!!!

MATEMAI - 9 August 2013

Tsvangirai's third term as the president of the MDC-T ends in 2014. According to the constitution of the MDC-T, the term of office of party president is maximun 2 five year terms. This was extended to 3 terms for the sake of Tsvangirai. Will we be having a new president for the MDC come 2014?

goto - 9 August 2013

When ZANU PF resettled about 276 000 families, have done Community Share OwnershipTrust in rural areas,Employee Share Ownership Schemes in current companies and mines, plus its spearheading for more of all these, tobacco yakaitisa vanhu vatema mari for the past few years etc etc,and then someone here is saying elections were rigged, how?
