Six remanded over election offences

HARARE - Six of the eight people who allegedly committed various election related offences have been remanded in custody.

Beauty Maenzanise, 36, Nobosi Chamukwira, 42, Kudakwashe Mufari, 43, Annah Bvute and Phillip Mabika were remanded to August 7 for their trial by magistrate Tendai Mahwe while Malvern Maketshemu, 33, was remanded by magistrate Anita Tshuma to August 8 for his trial.

Morris Nhamo Mhlanga, 23, was granted a $100 bail by Tshuma.

Defence counsel for Bvute, Mabika, Maenzanise, Chamhukirwa and Mufari, Obey Shava said his clients did not commit a serious offence as it only attracts a fine when found guilty after trial.

Shava said that his clients were family men and women who are grounded in Zimbabwe as all their relatives are here.

“The weakness of the state is that they did not arrest any Zanu PF people who committed similar offences during the elections,” Shava said.

John Zengeni, 22,who had been arrested for impersonation after he used his brother’s identity document to vote was fined $100.

On July 31, Zengeni went to a polling station to cast his vote using his brother’s national identity card and a voter’s slip and was arrested.

Maenzanise, Chamukwira and Mufari, were caught dropping MDC “Cross Over” rally flyers at a polling station.

In another matter Bvute and Mabika are alleged to have concealed the voters’ roll for Budiriro Ward 43.

I understand Acie Lumumba is still free and yet he was distributing fake voter slips in Hatfield. This is the military junta in action Mr editor, try and divert attention from the gigantic electoral fraud they committed. They would rather publicly execute chicken thief than a murderer who commits acts of felony in their name.

What about the thousands unearthed in Bitis election video who were bussed from rural areas to vote in Harare constituencies. Some of them were 16 but holding voter slips

On the elections ZANU did all its tricks to win the elections that's why they were so confided that they will win the elections months before. All the dirty games were done. With zanu there will be no progress.
