Ditched boyfriend steals ex's underwear

HARARE - A Harare woman is seeking a protection order against her ex-boyfriend she alleges stole her underwear and threatened to use it to “sort me.”

Tapiwa Detemero is suing her ex-boyfriend Madson Kenon for alleged physical, verbal and emotional abuse.

Detemero told the court that she had received messages from Kenon threatening her if she did not return all the money he spent on her back.

“Our problem started last year in November when he tried to force me into sexual intercourse with him,” Detemero said.

“I reported the matter to the police and later withdrew when he had apologised to me.

“We separated and I have moved on, but he still comes to my house and workplace insults and conducts himself violently.

“He has told me that he has some of my underwear which I am missing and that he is going to use them to ‘sort me out’.”

Detemero said Kenon is forcing her to go for HIV tests and embarrasses her at her workplace for refusing to abide.

“People now know him at my workplace because he is always there harassing and insulting me. He calls me a bitch and threatens to teach my new boyfriend a lesson,” she said.

“The other time he came shouting that he wanted to go for HIV testing with me and had to be apprehended by security guards because he could not contain his violent behaviour.”

Detemero told the court she feared for her safety. She said Kenon had told her he was not afraid of the police or any form of jurisdiction.

“I am now living in fear because he has told me he is not afraid of the police or protection order because that would not stop him from teaching me a lesson,” she said.

“He even insulted the police when he was served summons,” she said.

Kenon, through his legal representative, denied the allegations labelled them mere fabrications.

“These are mere fabrications, if there were so many incidences of assault, why did she not report the matter to the police,” he said.

Presiding magistrate Tatenda Manhanzva ordered Detemero to bring witnesses to help substantiate her allegations against Kenon before she rules on the matter today.
