Mugabe 'buries' Kereke

HARARE - President Robert Mugabe yesterday rallied Masvingo residents to reject ex-Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) advisor Munyaradzi Kereke’s parliamentary bid saying the party does not tolerate indiscipline.

While the Rock Foundation Medical Centre (RMC) founder did not acknowledge the Daily News’ inquiries on the President’s unusually harsh remarks yesterday, his newly-found nemesis said Zanu PF does not tolerate those who impose themselves on the electorate as candidates.

Kereke was booted out of Zanu PF on July 10 for insubordination after defying a party directive to step aside for Elias Musakwa. And in a bid to show his mettle, and grit as well, the Zimbabwe Newspapers (Zimpapers) board member refused to withdraw as an independent candidate for Bikita West after he was barred from running as a Zanu PF candidate.

Mugabe, who on Thursday reportedly snubbed an invitation to preside over the official opening of Kereke’s medical centre in Harare, said the maverick businessman was not cleared to be the party candidate for Bikita West saying Musakwa was the approved candidate.

“Kune vanhu vanofunga kuti (some people think) they are bigger than the party, you are not, and even the president is voted by the party,” Mugabe said. “I am here because of the party. Ndinosarudzwa nemusangano. (I am elected by the party).

“We don’t care whether you win or not, we will not accept you back into the party because you are disobedient.

“Tinoda vanhu vanoteerera musangano and not vanozvikudza kuita sevane vanhu kupfuura musangano. (Respect the party, you are not bigger than the party.)

“I know kuti kune vanhu vaviri ( I know there are one two people) or so vanofunga kuti (who think) they are bigger than the party, but let me tell you, we don’t tolerate disobedience in the party.”

He said Zanu PF will never accept Kereke even if the people voted for him and wins.

“Unoramba zvatakawirirana kuti usamira ndiwe ani (Who are you to say no to the party?” Mugabe asked.

“Hazvinei kuti une mari yakawanda sei uye watuma madzishe akawanda sei, kwatiri kana mutemo weparty wekuti hauna five years uchidaro hapana zvaungaite saka chero ukahwina hatikude,” (No matter how rich you are, even if you send chiefs, the party has laws which need to be followed. Even if you win, we will not accept you in the party) Mugabe said.

He added that Kereke lacked discipline, respect and was disobedient.

“No one is greater than the party, even the president is not greater than the party, he also follows the party’s rules,” Mugabe said.

“So we are saying don’t accept all disobedient candidates who impose themselves on you while defying their party.”

Ever since Kereke was ejected from the RBZ in February last year, he has been on a warpath against RBZ chief Gideon Gono and several other parties, including state security agents particularly Happyton Bonyongwe’s Central Intelligence Organisation and journalists.

Kereke’s bid is facing staunch resistance over damning criminal charges hanging over him of allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl three years ago, a charge he denies, claiming police had not acted up to now because they found no case against him.

The girl, now 14, has mounted a spirited campaign to get her alleged attacker on trial, writing to police chief Augustine Chihuri and to Attorney General Johannes Tomana saying she has the right to seek justice against her suspected attacker and that there should be no impunity granted to powerful men who rape minors.

Mugabe’s public statements yesterday confirm widely-held beliefs that Kereke’s candidacy was facing fierce resistance from the presidium.

OPEN LETTER TO WELSHMAN NCUBE: You my brother are an enemy of the people, because u refuse to compromise on the coalition we suffered during 2008 elections, people lost thier lives, other lost limbs, families were seperated, unemployment and hunger continues, zimbabweans (even ndebeles) continue to be abused and attacked in foreign nations. You abandond us in 2008 and you are doing it now again. the simple actions and decisions taken in ur small office have long reaching ripple effects on the people u claim to love. Devolution is a great idea, but it will arrive faster without Mugabe so do yourself and us a favour. If Zanu Pf wins, ur devolution idea will remain a dream. i cant believe u are comparing MDC-T to Zanu Pf, where have u been living for the past 33 years? You have instead chosen to allign yourself with Dabengwa who has opennly said he supported Simba Makoni only to deny Tsvangirai victory, what is that? the fight is not against Tsvangirai comrades, its against Zanu Pf first. As it stands ryt now any vote for you as president only serves as a message from matebeland people, whose plight we are all aware of. these votes serve no collective national purpose and every vote for u is effectively another Zanu PF vote. Please give us rest, progress, peace, freedom, respect, God knows we have suffered enough. All i hear from Tsvangirai rally speeches is, "the door is still open" from yours i hear, " never, our differences are too great, espcially on violence". Which violence, ur excuses are shallow and to me look like you are grasping for thin air. Your overgrown EGO is now our latest national problem. I understand you are very learned but apa we dont need a "neo-marxist theory" we need plain "love for the nation theory". If mugabe wins, i will always remember you as the man who handed him the victory and denied Zimbabwe true freedom. Proffessor before you ask to deliver change, understand that change begins with you, you "EGOCENTRIC GOAT"

Kereke must watch out now. They are already digging up evidence against him for all those alleged crimes and he may soon be in jail. Your defense is to make public all their misdeeds that were you perpetrated while at the RBZ. This is your only chance to fight back because in a new Zimbabwe we will get you arrested for RAPE. ITS NOWHERE TO RUN NOW.
