Chiefs through to Machache final

BULAWAYO - Bulawayo Chiefs are still on course for a league and cup double after their 1-0 victory over police outfit Black Boots in the semi-finals of the Machache Meats Tournament at Fair Bridge last Saturday.

Chiefs’ winner came from Moses Majika and the Rahman Gumbo coached outfit will play Mpumalanga in the final at the weekend.

Mpumalanga prevailed 2-0 over Hwange Under-20 in the other semi-final.

The final is set for the weekend at a venue that is yet to be confirmed.

Chiefs are well poised for the sole promotion ticket in the Southern Region First Division as they enjoy a healthy lead over their rivals with the league at the halfway mark.

They are also the hot favourites on paper for the cup tournament as their opponents Mpumalanga have endured a difficult campaign in the league race this year and their fairytale cup run is a surprise.

The Machache Meats Tournament is sponsored to the tune of $16 000 and the winners will pocket $3 000 while the runners up will walk away with $1 850.

Teams that failed to negotiate their way past the first stage of the competition will get $200 for their efforts.
