Bulawayo Chiefs extend lead

BULAWAYO – Southern Region Division One pacesetters Bulawayo Chiefs have opened a nine-point gap at the summit of the log after edging former top flight side Quelaton 1-0 at Fairbridge on Saturday.

Speed merchant Kundishora Chakanyuka scored the all important goal for the log leaders who took their points tally to 37 from 15 games.

Second-placed Black Boots fell further behind after playing out a goalless draw against fellow uniformed forces outfit Bulawayo Jumbos at Brad Barracks.

The Fairbridge-based police outfit has 28 points from 15 outings.

Lizwe Sweswe’s Tsholotsho are fast emerging as the championship dark horses after posting an impressive 1-0 away victory over ZPC Hwange.

Nixon ‘Matakwinya’ Gama scored a spectacular long range effort to propel Tsholotsho to third spot with 26 points from 15 games.

Zimbabwe Saints’ revival under Mark Mathe continued when the former giants of local football accounted for city rivals Bantu Rovers 1-0 at Luveve Stadium on Sunday.

Midfielder Forward Choko scored the winner for Chikwata in the first minute of the game.

Saints are now on 24 points and moved up to sixth position on the log.

Sitting a rung below Chikwata is Lobengula-based New West who beat Mpumalanga 2-0 through Mkhululi Dube’s brace.

New West is on 23 points from 15 matches.

Bantu Rovers complete the upper half of the table with 22 points to their credit.
