Triangle complete Mambas double

HARARE - Veteran defender David Sengu netted the only goal as Triangle completed the double over Black Mambas with a 1-0 win in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Morris Depot on Saturday.

The Chiredzi-based outfit shot to eighth position on the log with 19 points from 16 games while Mambas dropped to 11th place on 19 points.

Sengu scored the all-important goal in the 19th minute from the penalty after Mambas defender Paida Madziro had brought down Courage Denias inside the box. Referee Ruzive Ruzive correctly made the call and the former CAPS United defender Sengu rarely misses from 12 yards. The sugar cane farmers were deserving leaders after asking a lot of questions of the Warumwa Warumwa defence in those opening minutes.

Just after five minutes, Daniel Kamunhenga should have given Triangle the lead after exchanging passes with Limited Chikafa but he shot wide.

The home side’s first real chance arrived after 12 minutes but they were thwarted by the evergreen defender William Mapfumo, who stretched himself to bloke Tsepo Rontokoane’s cross from reaching Nhlanhla Ncube.

Action was now swinging from end to end as Chikafa wasted another golden chance when he had been beautifully set up by Denias but he blasted his effort over from close range.

Moments later, Denias would come back to haunt the home side again when he was brought down by Madziro inside the box.

After the match Black Mambas assistant coach Martin Bonongwe admitted they were outclassed by the side from the Lowveld.

“Generally, we did not play our normal game. Most of the time we were second to the ball,” he said. Triangle coach Gishon Ntini said: “We played very well. I’m happy to win the game. We only need to remain united and focused.”
