Ncube, Dabengwa forge pact

BULAWAYO – The MDC formation led by Welshman Ncube and Dumiso Dabengwa’s revived Zapu Friday forged a double-headed alliance to enhance chances of regional representation as the country hurtles towards watershed elections on July 31.

The partnership emerged  soon after MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai forged an alliance with Mavambo /Dawn/ Kusile leader Simba Makoni and Zanu Ndonga leader Reketai Sengwayo in a bid to remove President Robert Mugabe from power.

Dabengwa hailed the alliance as a historic event for the region and Zimbabwe.

“We met to discuss the efforts we have been making to come together in order to forge some sort of alliance particularly towards the elections,” Dabengwa said.

The talks between Zapu and MDC started last December although they could not be finalised owing to Ncube’s busy schedule.

As part of the new arrangement, Ncube and Dabengwa will remain in charge of the alliance and various committees that are selected in terms of the constitution of the two parties.

“We are still separate parties but we are working towards coming together in full at some point in the future,” Ncube said.

Ncube pledged to work together with Dabengwa regardless of the election outcome.

“In those areas we have both fielded candidates, we have agreed that we will compete against each other peacefully as a model of what Zimbabwe should be and have peaceful co-existence,” Ncube said.

He said the parties had pledged to continue engaging each other at all contested levels with the view of minimising the number of MDC and Zapu candidates who are going to face each other in the election.

In a show of solidarity, Zapu Bulawayo East parliamentary candidate Rodger Muhlwa agreed to step down in support of MDC’s David Coltart.

Why join two small parties, its like two little boys ganging up to fight a man,the result is obvious

I had hoped that regionally-based politics were a thing of the past, but alas! here we go again. Ladies and gentlemen,do we need this in order to remove ZPF?

STUPID NDEBELES...........

tongai - 6 July 2013

These guys wont win a thing. We are too progressive as a nation to be divided again on tribal lines. Morgan For a free and progressive Zimbabwe.

Suluman - 6 July 2013

This is the first of the baby steps to a final union of the parties. ZAPU and MDC have their heart in the right place. Fro their pact they can join the mainstream MDCT from strength rather join in their individual capacity. This is at should be as the two parties have heard the cries of their people and are making the right steps in the right direction..mindful of the fact that Zimbabweans in main street have been asking for this union for ever. I believe ultimately all these parties will be one as we inch towards the final day..there is still a good 25 days for all parties to do the right thing and everything points to this!

Zanu Pf are the biggest losers if this coalition is to taken seriously by the ppl of matebebland. What ppl do not know is that Tsvangirai lost dismally in Matebeleland South where Robert Mugabe propped by Obert Mpofus diamond money polled 48000 votes in the province compared to Makonis 36000 and Tsvangirais 31000. Tsvangirai stronghold has since shifted to Manicaland and Masvingo provinces where he holds 20 in 26 and 14 in 26 seats respectively.

Tsenza - 6 July 2013

Why do people think that any political representation from Matabeleland is formed on tribal lines. Ncube and Dabengwa are exercising their democratic rights as bonafide citizens of Zimbabwe. Who said joining Tsvangirai is the only passport that qualifies someone to be called national politicians. If you think Ncube and Dabengwa are small boys why then do you worry about their allience. Come 31 july you people who believe someone who is not from Mashonaland can not make it will bow down in sorrow.

chindori chinyika - 6 July 2013

Nobody in Matebeland will take this coalition seriously. We are to educated a nation to start talking about tribe when we have 90% unemployment.

Mphumelelo - 6 July 2013

You Mphumelelo you are not educated but dome. If you are educated as you claim why do you believe that politics initiated in Matabeleland is tribal not national. Ncube and Dabengwa are national politicians. Dabengwa fought the liberation war to liberate Zimbabwe not only Matabeleland. Welshman has been and will continue to address star rallies in the whole country as a National politician. Remember he is a Zimbabwean from Midlands province who has a right to contest for the presidential post now and in the future.

chindori chinyika - 6 July 2013

Let them continue their tribal ambitions. We shall deal with them after independence come july31 but truly this the kind of betrayal similar to what men like Nyathi did to the Zimbabwean ppl during the liberation war

Edna - 6 July 2013

@chindori Is tribe the agenda or it is removal of a 33 year old dictatorship? Who in ngangu, Checheche, Nembudziya, hurungwe, kotwa, dindi, mzarabani know Welshaman honestly. Be serious.we are in Zimbabwe jack not in mthwakazi

Mphumelelo - 6 July 2013

This alliance benefits Zanu-PF big time. I am not sure whether Dabengwa is supporting this alliance for the good of Matabeleland people or for Zanu-PF. This alliance is the best news for Mugabe as the opposition votes will be split. In a nutshell, if Matabeleland votes for Ncube/Dabengwa alliance, it means that they want RG as President.

Gondobwe - 6 July 2013

This is a big test of maturity for people in Matebeleland. I would like to se how they shall vote but my feeling will be this coalition shall only thrive in Mat South but not in Bulawayo or Mat North where ppl are mature to know national agendas

Matione - 6 July 2013

A grand Zanu Pf project. Robert Mugabe after losing grip in Matebeleland has decided to use his former security minister Dabengwa to infiltrate and destabilise the opposition with a tribal divide and rule tactic. But eventually sympathisers of these men shall again be forced to choose btwn RG and MT in a run off.

Zvenyika - 6 July 2013

That shall not stop Save from romping home with an 85% landslide. Don't underestimate the power of silence of Tsvangirais supporters. Yesterday we filled Zim Grounds just to get free t.shirts and at least benefit from our looted diamond monies. kkkk uMorgan ngubaba wethu vhele. Zimbabwe is more.

Chinx - 6 July 2013

Nothing to panic fellow Zimboz. If this coalition grows strong then chances of a re-run will still bring these renegades back home. for the now all should be practicing to place their x on Morgan Chamatama Swing low sweet chariot.

Getrude - 6 July 2013

The defe bopota Vunguman shall die miserable and trying. He shall suffer the same fate he suffered in Makokoba, the same fate that former heroes like Gwisai, Sikhala, and now Madhuku faced- disappear into political oblivion.

Mai Roza - 6 July 2013

Seems people of Matebeland are now shifting from the initial cry of compensation of Gukurahundi to a serious quest of secession. If you hear, their language is all talking about devolution and secession. This in turn makes the uniting Mugabe more popular from a Zanu and Mdc point of view as no one in Zimbabwe is prepared for tribal wars and divisinism. They since died during the Mfecane days. meanwhile vote for MRT.

ChenChim - 6 July 2013

Ok Bye bye comrades. Wish you best of luck. President Tsvangirai remember the Bible verse you quoted us from Psalms in Chinhoyi which says blessed is he who trusts in the Lord and not in the might of men. Tinowinner mkoma morgiza. nyika yakakutsigirai.

Son of prophet - 6 July 2013

Who says tribal is when people in Matebeland form a coalition, there were no tribal comments when Tsvangson and Simba formed a coalition. Im from Mashonaland myself but I bleed with such comments coming from our people.

Komrade - 6 July 2013

MDC T negotiates in bad faith. They think they are better than other opposition parties. Tsvangirai wanted to use Ncube and Dabengwa and then dump them thereafter. He dumped people after they voted for him in 2008. He never brought anything to them as the Prime-Minister. The only thing he did to them was to impregnate their daughters and refused to pay damages and maintenance. He is not a principled and examplary leader thus why people are turning away from him. He can't be trusted, even his own party members do not trust him. MDC T members are practising racism and tribalism in the country. Like ZANU PF they don't have tolerance. So forming a coalition with such unprincipled people can prove to be malicious, because they are 100% up to using Ncube and Dabengwa. Tsvangirai all along has been teaming up with Mugabe against Ncube, so he must form a grand coalition with Mutambara and Mugabe, because they were all principals who have been good friends all along.

chindori chinyika - 6 July 2013

Some people are calling the Ncube-Dabengwa coalition tribal. What then do they call Tsvangirai-Makoni and Zanu Ndonga coalition. People must stop thinking in terms of primitive politics and ideologies. The agenda is to have good governance, pluralism, tolerance and a multiple party state in Zimbabwe. A one party state advocated for by Mugabe, Tsvangirai and their supporters is a and has proven to be a disaster for the past 33 years. Countries with many parties in parliament such as Israel, Italy, Britain and others have checks and balances, as a result sick and partisan bills are not passed in such parliaments. Only Bills that serve country rather than party interests are passed. Tsvangirai and Mugabe are the same corrupt evil that lacks respect, principles and tolerance. Like uncle like nephew.

chindori chinyika - 6 July 2013

Those people who think that Welshman Ncube is tribalist are from ZANU .You are the very people who spent 20 years supporting Mugabe, when in fact us never in one day put a cross on him.MDC had a strong base from Matebeleland, but now the MDC is diluted by people with Z Anu Pf ideology. So we say,we don't need a coalition with you ,why don't you make a coalition with ZaNu and win.Leave us alone,we don't need you either.

Tichatonga - 6 July 2013

The people's enemy has thrown confusion for the benefit of Zanu-PF. Ncube and Dabengwa would like to form another unity pact with Zanu-PF after the elections with Mugabe again calling the shots! I hope the people of Matabeleland will see through this Zanu-PF engineered scandal.

Morgan is not a wife snatcher and he can make a woman pregnant moreover these women were trying their lucky bcoz the guy was single as for wining the election only an idiot can doubt that bcoz the writing on the wall is written in bold letters Morgan is going to easily win this one

Diibulaanyika - 6 July 2013

Ncube and Dabengwa just don't give a damn about coalition. Their tribe never witnessed the long/short sleeve horror of the 2008 run.off or the mass murders. Or perhaps they are deliberately doing it to trigger another run.off so as to trigger the repeat the same scenario and maybe compensate for their gukurahundi rage. But one thing for sure, their stubbornness steals the lifetime chance of ever seeing the Gukurahundi perpetrators ever being brought to book whilst they are alive. Their stabborn stance completely buries the enquiry according to most Shona observers. Musazotinetsera vana vedu when the actual perpetrators are long dead and gone and demanding answers from people who don't have answers. Evil Ncube should be stopped

Tawona - 6 July 2013

True Tawona. Gukurahundi was best solved whilst Mugabe was alive and best solved under a Tsvangirai Gvt coz he was neither a perpetrator nor a victim. Now if these guy continue with their stabborness and further grant the perpetrator another 5yrs then there dies the Enquiry. It shall be difficult to know the true picture when the perpetrators are dead and gone

Suspenz - 6 July 2013

All that the people of Matebeleland are saying is that the people from the rest of the country must respect their decisions and take them seriously, they must not just dismiss all political parties that are headquartered in matebeland as tribal. They are not people who look down upon themselves, but they really believe in themselves and are proud of who they are. If people from Mashonaland humble themselves and accept Ncube and Dabengwa as true national leaders, i dont think that they will refuse to accept Tsvangirai into their coalition and then together, as equals, they will win the elections resoundingly. If peolpe from Mashonaland continue to see themselves as superior(which is not recognised by people from Matland) the coalition cannot take place. Please Zimbabeans, lets not call each other regionalists or tribalists, it wont help, it wont bring the parties together. Even if someone forms a party in Binga and considers it national, its ok. Lets respect each other so that we can be united.
