Two Parly candidates arrested

BULAWAYO - Two aspiring candidates’ parliamentary bid was jolted when they were convicted for failing to shut down their mobile phones during Nomination Court proceedings.

Thamsanqa Jealous Ndlovu, 50, of Mpopoma—Pelandaba and Peresu Zacheous, 46, of Pumula Constituency appeared separately before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa facing contempt of court charges.

The two were cautioned and discharged.

The State alleges on June 28 Ndlovu and Zacheous were among other politicians at the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Courts, Tredgold Building where the Nomination Court was sitting in Court 5.

Innocent Ncube presided over proceedings to accept nomination papers.

The two candidates courted trouble when they rubbed the law the wrong way by defying orders to switch off their phones during court sessions.

On separate occasions Ndlovu and Zacheous’ cell phones rang, disturbing court proceedings.

The presiding officer ordered the two politicians to be arrested. They were immediately taken to Bulawayo Central Police Station where contempt of court charges were filed against them.
