Cop basher jailed for 6 months

HARARE - A man who assaulted a police officer shall spend the next six months in prison after he was found guilty of resisting and assaulting a law enforcement agent.

Archford Nkhunda, 33, had been sentenced to 14 months in prison but eight months were set aside on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard on May 11, Constable Archford Jera, a police officer stationed at ZRP Dzivaresekwa received information that Nkhunda was wanted in connection with an assault case that happened in Mount Hampden.

Upon arrival at Willdale Compound in Mt Hampden, Jera introduced himself by showing his identity card before arresting Nkhunda.

When the Tiger Bricks tipper driver had only been handcuffed on one hand, he became violent and started assaulting Jera using the handcuffs, resulting in him sustaining cuts on his left hand fingers.

Nkhunda went on to tell Jera that he would not be going anywhere and later ran away with the handcuffs on his hand.
