CD vendor nabbed for selling mbanje

BULAWAYO – A pirate compact disc vendor has been convicted for possessing eight grammes of prepared dagga and fined $20 or one week in prison by a Bulawayo court.

Webster Mugwagwa of Njube pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa.

The court heard on June 28 detectives patrolling the streets found Mugwagwa selling pirated compact discs at the corner 10th Avenue and Robert Mugabe Way.

Prosecutor Malvin Nzombe told the court that when the detectives frisked Mugwagwa they found one sachet of mbanje in his stockings and another in his pocket.

The confiscated mbanje had a street value of $8.

In mitigation Mugwagwa pleaded for mercy and made a shocking revelation that he started smoking dagga at a tender age.
