Tugwete's stock on the rise

HARARE - Zimbabwe junior footballer Taurayi Tugwete’s stock continued its upward trend after another solid performance at Hyundai five-aside soccer tournament on Friday.

Tugwete turned the Hyundai tournament into a one man show as he caused havoc to defenders on his way to score a remarkable 20 goals for his school Hartman House.

Last year, the Daily News on Sunday exclusively revealed that Tugwete turned down the offer of a trial with Spanish giants Barcelona.

The 12-year-old attracted the attention of Catalan giants after scoring 19 goals in five games during a tournament held at Lusitania Primary School.

With such a deadly eye for goal, the youngster is destined for greatness.

“My aim is to play for our national team in the near future and also I want to play for Manchester United and I think everything is possible,” declared Tugwete to the Daily News on Sunday.

Tugwete’s coach Bheki Nyoni said: “When I look at him I always compared him with Warriors player Mathew Rusike. There are some similarities between Tugwete and Rusike.

“Tugwete works hard at the training and if he continues to work like this I foresee a brighter future. With a number of player agents sprouting everywhere there is need to protect such talent from falling into wrong hands.”

Nyoni also bemoaned lack of junior development in Zimbabwe football for failing to unearth more talent like Tugwete.

“For football to develop we need to have a good junior policy and thus were we can unearth talented junior players like Tugwete and they will then graduate to higher level,” he said.

“Youth football is the foundation for our dreams to qualify for the African Cup of Nations and World Cup finals. The challenge is lack of sponsorship and the cooperate world must come in to support the youngsters and a nation that respect its juniors rise to greater heights.”

Poorly written story! Who did the young man score 20 goals against? Was it in one game? Where was the tournament held? This is absolutely a PR stunt gone wrong promoting the 12 year old boy! This is unacceptably poor journalism for a paper of the calibre of the DailyNews!!!!

Dick This is my son. It was a tournament at Hellenic Primary School. It was sponosred by Hyundai. There were the likes of St Johns, Hellenic, Twin Rivers and other private schools. Its not a lie. Its not a marketing stunt an dthere is no need to lie about such issues. Just because you were not able to attend this tournament it does not mean that its a lye. You can contact me and I will invite you to one of his games. He trains at BN academy every Saturday at Belgravia Sports Club He has played against Dynamos junior for curtain raisers at many International games. Ask around or google him and you maybe enlightened. be happy for your fellow young country man. The boy is now in Grade 7 at Hartman House Prep School. For your own infomration he is also in the Zim under 13 cricket and Harare A Provincial Hockey team which he is the captain.
