UZ to launch golf scholarship programme

HARARE - The University  of Zimbabwe Alumni in conjunction with Partners Golf  Classic are set to host a golf tournament next month in a bid to raise funds for the UZ Golf Scholarship programme.

UZ vice-chancellor Levi Nyagura said the tournament will be played at Country Club on July 12 and 13.

“The objective of the University of Zimbabwe Alumni and Partners Golf Classic is to appeal to former students and various sectors of the economy, to partner with the university in developing golf scholarship programme,” Nyagura said in a statement.

“The programme is in tandem with international standards, where identified students with good golfing capabilities, will be nature and groomed into professional entrepreneurs. Alumni and partners can join us this noble national golf platform through their participation in the golf event, or through sponsorship of various projects.”

Zimbabwe Sports Recreation Commission director general Charles Nhemachena praised the initiative.

“The SRC lends its full support to this noble initiative. It is our firm belief and sincere conviction that unless practical steps such as the one we are witnessing today are taken, serious gaps will continue to exist in the development of sport in this country. We therefore congratulate the UZ for taking this initiative,” said Nhemachena
