Rangers unbeaten run halted, ZPC maintain lead

HARARE - Seasoned campaigners DStv Rangers were handed their first defeat of the season following a 2-0 loss to newboys Starbill on Saturday while log leaders ZPC Kariba marched on with another important win.

Rangers’ defeat left DC Academy as the only unbeaten team in the Zifa Northern Region division one league after Newton Chitehwe’s men forced a goalless draw against Power Master.

ZPC Kariba took full advantage of Rangers’ slip-up by collecting maximum points with a 2-0 win against Lake Harvest courtesy of goals from Nkosi Mhlanga and Gibson Salous.

Jostein Mathuthu’s charges rallied from behind to snatch a crucial win in their fight for the championship after falling behind to an early lead by Lake Harvest.

The win saw the Kariba-based side maintain a one-point lead ahead of Flame Lilly and ZPS Morris, who are in second place tied on 25 points.

Rangers dropped to fifth place and are now trailing log leaders by four points. Former log leaders Commando Bullets were pushed to sixth place following a goalless draw in Kadoma against Chegutu Pirates.

The current campaign is promising to be a closely contested affair as all top eight teams are in the reckoning for the title fight.
