City move into second place

HARARE - Harare City on Thursday reaffirmed their growing status as real title contenders after sweeping past Monomotapa 3-1 to move into second place on the Castle Premiership log standings.

2008 Zimbabwean champions Monomotapa drew first blood after Agrippa Murimba scored on 42 minutes to give Monoz a first half lead. The former Motor Action man gave his side the lead with a simple tap in from five yards out following an inviting cross from Obey Mwerahari.

But City produced a vintage second half performance, grabbing the three goals inside 12 minutes.

Phineas Bamusi levelled matters in the 52and minute after stabbing home from close range before ex-Monomotapa midfielder James Jam’s brilliant volley made it 2-1 moments later.

Osborne Mukuradare hammered the final nail into the Monoz coffin with his eighth goal of the season after 64 minutes and seemed to have no qualms about celebrating his goal against his former paymasters. - Sports Writer
