'Stunner is my role model'

HARARE - Aspiring urban groover Malvin “Flava” Mutsiwo, who is enthused by rapper Stunner, had his dream squashed when he was told to reach 5 000 Facebook likes to qualify for a collaboration with his dream music rapper (Stunner).

The 21-year-old Mutsiwo told the Daily News that he has 11 tracks under his belt and wishes to release the album this year.

He added that he strives to have a collaboration with Stunner, his role model.

“Stunner is my inspiration and it is because of him that I ventured into the music industry.
“I approached his (Stunner) management for a chance to collaborate with Stunner but was told to have at least 5 000 Facebook likes. It came as shocker to me for I only have 340 Facebook likes and considering the target, it demotivates me because it is a milestone,” said the young Mutsiwo.

A second year Biology student at Midlands State University Mutsiwo said his first track Amai was recorded in 2011 as a tribute to his late mother.

“I recorded my first track out of pain because I had lost my mother. It was in memory of her and I didn’t think that people would love it. I was surprised when I received a positive response and this motivated me a lot, giving me courage and confidence to record more,” said Mutsiwo.

Flava set the record straight as he clarified that he records music during his spare time such as vacations.

“I work on music during my spare time and I don’t compromise school time. I want to complete my degree,” said the Mutare singer.

Stunner however, was not available for comment as his mobile phone was not reachable. - Bryn Gumbo
