Mighty Warriors leave for Banyana friendly

HARARE - Zimbabwe women’s football team flies out to Johannesburg Tuesday morning for an international friendly against Banyana Banyana on Saturday.

Though the Mighty Warriors have only one competition this year, the Cosafa tournament in October, the team is not taking any chances in their quest to remain in shape.

Last month, the Mighty Warriors beat Zambia 3-1 in Lusaka in another international friendly match. The Mighty Warriors announced a strong 18-member squad that is set to do business against Banyana Banyana.

Inline Academy defender Rudo Jongondi has been handed her first national team call up while Violet Bepete has also been recalled after missing last month’s friendly against Chipolopolo ladies.

Striker Rudo Neshamba, who had a stint in Botswana last season, leads the attack that has also Erinna Jeke, hard-running Marjoury Nyaumwe and Rutendo Makore.

Mighty Warriors team manager Charity Munemo said they are expecting a good game against Banyana.

“We are working towards building a strong team and we are looking forward to a good match against South Africa,” Munemo told the Daily News yesterday.

“We want to win this match so that we can improve on our ranking. We are looking at building a strong team for future assignments and we have called players whom we think can deliver,” added Munemo.
