Mhlanga earns top businessman award

HARARE - Mbada Diamonds has maintained its winning streak, scooping five awards at a Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Manicaland chapter awards ceremony held in Mutare last Friday.

The annual awards, which were organised by the ZNCC, saw the diamond mining firm winning the best exporter of the year award, the best company contributing towards corporate social responsibility as well as an award in workplace health and safety awareness.

Robert Mhlanga, Mbada Diamonds chairperson  was voted businessman of the year while corporate services executive George Manyaya emerged the best marketing and public relations executive of the year.

Other companies that scooped awards during the event were Net*One, Zesa, Powertel among other corporates.

A number of both rural and urban business people also walked away with awards in various categories.

Meanwhile, Mbada Diamonds sponsored a soccer match in Arda Transau, where it resettled people from Chiadzwa to pave way for diamond exploration.

The soccer tournament dubbed “Arda Transau Community Cup” saw two teams from Mbada Diamonds Mine squaring off with a team of journalists from Manicaland as well as a team from Arda Transau.

The Arda Transau team emerged the winners and walked away with a floating trophy and a $500 cash prize.

The journalists team, Manicaland Scribes and Arda Transau teams received donations of two sets of football kits each as well as some soccer boots.

The Manicaland journalists also took the opportunity to tour some projects that are being done for Arda Transau community by Mbada Diamonds.

The projects comprise of chicken rearing and farming among other developmental projects. - Staff Writer
