SMEs minister bunks Parly hearing

HARARE - Parliamentarians have ordered Small and Medium Enterprises and Co-operative Development minister Sithembiso Nyoni to immediately appear before a Parliamentary committee after she sent proxies.

The SME portfolio committee led by chairperson Albert Mhlanga had summoned Nyoni and her permanent secretary Evelyn Ndlovu to give oral evidence on the ministry’s first quarter budget performance report but they sent principal directors in the ministry for the hearing.

Mhlanga told them to go back to their offices and come back with Nyoni and Ndlovu.
The directors explained to the committee that Ndlovu was coming but the MPs walked out of the committee room resulting in the adjournment of the meeting.

“They must take Parliament seriously we have been waiting for them to appear,” Mhlanga said.

“It is unfair that they are telling us they are waiting for their permanent secretary and yet we wanted the minister to appear before us.

“They might not like us as MPs but they must respect the institution of Parliament, and we still expect the minister to appear before us next week.”
