Aspiring MDC parliamentarian dies

BULAWAYO - Mainstream MDC members in  Insiza South constituency in Matabeleland South Province were left  in shock after  an  aspiring parliamentary candidate collapsed  and died  just a day  after he was elected  to stand  on the party ticket in the country’s watershed elections to be held later  this year.

Jabulani Dube was elected on Tuesday during MDC primary elections held in the province after he defeated fellow party members Mpumelelo Ndlovu, Nkuleluko Sibanda and Danisa Mlilo.

“Dube collapsed  and died  this morning at  his  home in Insiza South,  it’s so sad  this happened soon after  he was  elected  to  stand for  our party  in the next elections,” Matabeleland South MDC chairperson Watchy Sibanda  told the  Daily News yesterday.

Asked  if the party will  hold  fresh primary elections following Dube’s death, Sibanda  said: “We are  still mourning  the death of  our comrade and we  can’t  talk  about  holding fresh  elections now.” - Pindai Dube
