8 perish in minibus accident

HARARE - Eight people died while 12 others were seriously injured when a minibus travelling from Sanyati to Kadoma overturned five times, killing four people on the spot, police confirmed yesterday.

National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi told the Daily News the minibus carrying 19 passengers burst one of its tyres before overturning.

According to Nyathi, the driver of the minibus died while being rushed to Sanyati Hospital together with another passenger while two others died on their way to Kadoma Hospital.

“We want to appeal to motorists to ensure that their vehicles have the correct size of tyres that are not defective,” Nyathi said. “We also want to appeal to drivers to ensure that they avoid speeding as this is contributing significantly to the road carnage.” - Xolisani Ncube
