Bosso win Benjani tournament

BULAWAYO - Highlanders won the second edition of the Benjani Mwaruwari Youth Festival after defeating Bantu Rovers in a hotly contested final that had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out here yesterday.

The game had ended 1-1 during regulation time.

Goalkeeper Brighton Zulu was the hero for the Dumaza Dube-coached Bosso juniors after saving three spot kicks while Brian Bhebhe, Gladman Bharibhari and Nkosana Ndlovu were on target for Highlanders during the penalty shootout.

Zulu redeemed himself with his spot kick saving heroics after he had missed the first penalty for Highlanders while right back Donnet Fosho had his spot kick saved by Bantu Rovers keeper Reward Muza.

Thabo Lunga and Sylvester Ndlovu converted for Bantu Rovers during the shootout while player of the tournament Denzil Khumalo, Lesley Lunga and Mthabisi Tshuma had their efforts saved by Zulu.

Lesley had equalised for Bantu Rovers during regulation time to cancel out Nkosana Ndlovu's goal for Highlanders.

Nkosana, who is the son of Highlanders assistant coach Bekithemba, was joint top goal scorer with three goals together with Zibusiso Tshuma of Magwegwe High School.

Zulu was chosen the goalkeeper of the tournament after his top drawer saves throughout the two-day festival.

Highlanders accounted for FMH Academy 2-0 in the semifinals, with Nkosana grabbing a brace, while Bantu beat Street Set 3-0 through goals by Sylvester Ndlovu, Khumalo and Tendai Nyandoro. - Sakheleni Nxumalo
