MDC postpones Masvingo primaries

MASVINGO - Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC party has indefinitely postponed primary elections in Masvingo that were set for this weekend, a senior official has said.

Party provincial secretary Tongai Matutu said the primaries were postponed because the party’s elections directorate members could not cope with the number of provinces that are also pencilled to hold the elections on the same day.

He said other provinces like Bulawayo, Harare, Matabeleland South and Chitungwiza are holding the internal elections at the weekend.

“We were supposed to hold our party primaries and confirmation this Saturday May 25 but the elections directorate held a meeting on Monday and decided to postpone Masvingo elections.

“The reason is that the teams that are supposed to preside over the process will be unable to cover all the provinces at once,” Matutu said. - Godfrey Mtimba
