Gomwe appointed Econet director

HARARE - Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited (Econet) has appointed Godfrey Gomwe as non-executive director.

Gomwe, Anglo America’s global thermal coal business chief executive, brings in a wealth of experience to the telecoms company as he has held numerous directorships and executive positions in both listed and unlisted companies.

He was previously head of group business development in Africa for Anglo America.

Gomwe — among several high profile Zimbabwean executives heading international conglomerates, including Ben Magara who was recently appointed Lonmin chief executive — was also chairperson of Anglo Zimele.

Prior to that, he was the finance director and chief operating officer of Anglo American South Africa and also chairperson of Highveld Steel and Mondi SA.

Before moving to South Africa in 2003, Gomwe was the chief executive of Anglo American Zimbabwe.

Econet also appointed Sherree Gladys Shereni as non-executive director.

Shereni — who has experience in public affairs and communication - is currently with Coca-Cola, which she joined in 2002.

She has previously held senior positions at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, among them as chief economist and head of balance of payments. - Business Writer
