Man gets 14 years for sodomy

HARARE - A 22-year-old Kuwadzana man has been sentenced to an effective 14 years in jail after he was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault.

Pardon Chikomo would lure his 10-year-old victim to the maize fields in their area and sodomise him.

Regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya sentenced Chikomo to 18 years in jail but suspended four years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on February 25 this year the minor met Chikomo at Kuwadzana 4 shops and was told by the latter to follow him to the nearby maize fields.

Chikomo sodomised the boy in the field.

Prosecutor Kudzai Chigwedere told the court that on the second encounter the boy met Chikomo while playing snooker at a shopping centre and was led to a field where he was violated again.

On subsequent occasions, the boy would bump into Chikomo and be led to the maize fields where he would be sodomised.

In March, the mother of the boy noticed some wounds on the minor’s private parts and quizzed him resulting in the boy revealing his ordeal to her.

On March 25, the minor managed to identify Chikomo at Kuwadzana shops, leading to his arrest. - Helen Kadirire
