Hwange edge Shabanie

HARARE - Hwange picked their first set of three points in the 2013 Castle Premiership season when they edged Chicken Inn at the Colliery yesterday.

The coalminers came into yesterday’s match after having lost to Black Mambas and Buffalos while only picking up only three points after draws with How Mine, Black Rhinos and Motor Action.

Pritchard Mpelele opened the scoring for the home side two minutes before the break when his shot deflected off a Chicken Inn defender before wrong footing goalkeeper Njabulo Nyoni.

The goal came against the run of play as the visitors had started the game brightly with Richard Jongwe, Tendai Ndoro, Danny Phiri, Lenience Mpofu and Cabby Kamhapa all wasting good chances to open the scoring.

Hwange did well to weather the early pressure from Chicken Inn with their goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda making some brilliant stops to deny the visitors.

The game however turned on its head in the second half when the Chipangano goalkeeper Sibanda handed the visitors a life line with a poor clearance that went straight at Ndoro in the 59th minute.

The speedy winger took advantage of Sibanda’s blunder to equalise for the Bulawayo side.

Hwange were not to be denied the three points though this time around as Edward Halungu scored the all important goal from close range after an assist from Isaac Masame. - Blessings Mashaya
