Drama at Rufaro

HARARE - Dynamos earned a last-gasp draw against Highlanders in the Castle Premiership yesterday after referee Norman Mutemera added three more minutes to the initial added time.

The visitors took a stunning second half lead through Njabulo Ncube, who unleashed a shot from inside the box that hit the roof of the net past goalkeeper Artwell Mukandi.

DeMbare, who are still yet to register a win this season, got their goal in the sixth minute of added time through Jaure, who finished off a corner from substitute Tawanda Muparati.

That it was defender Partson Jaure who scored for Dynamos was even harder to swallow for Bosso after the DeMbare stopper escaped without even a booking after his high foot landed in the stomach of Milton Ncube in a sending-off offence.

The fourth official had signalled four minutes of added time but referee Norman Matemera instead played seven minutes from which DeMbare got their goal, which sparked fury among Bosso players and officials.

Highlanders had themselves to blame after failing to wrap up the game especially after surging ahead in the second half, as they enjoyed a huge chunk of possession.

“I think it was a difficult game for us but the good thing is we managed to score today,” Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu said after the match.

“We created few scoring chances and we managed to get the goal. Certainly I thought victory was coming our way but we lost concentration towards the end. I think my players thought the game was over but we should learn to play until the final whistle.

“Of course there were looking at the time that we had played more than the added time but we should learn to concentrate until the final whistle. I think we had come with the right attitude that we are going to beat Dynamos but it’s unfortunate that we conceded at the end of the game.”

It was a game of two halves as the Glamour Boys dominated in the first half but failed to convert their chances with Bosso goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya denying them on a number of occasions with good saves.

Highlanders had a penalty appeal waved away in the ninth minute after Dynamos defender Gift Bello handled in the box but referee waved play on much to the relief of DeMbare supporters.

Six minutes later, Bosso right-back Bruce Tshuma made a solo down his flank, exchanging passes with Masimba Mambare and needlessly went down in the box and was duly cautioned for diving.

The Harare giants could have surged ahead in the 23rd minute but Francisco Zekumbawira’s effort was thwarted by impressive Diya, who made a double save having also denied Murape Murape from a re-bound.

DeMbare had an upper hand in the midfield battle where Steven Alimenda and Devon Chafa seemed to get the better of Mthulisi Maphosa and Hillary Madzivanyika neutralising most of the Highlanders raids but again struggled in the final third.

Bosso came back a rejuvenated side in the second half and it was not a surprise when Ncube pushed them ahead with sublime goal after a lapse of concentration from Dynamos defenders.

Highlanders even gained more upper hand in the midfield when coach Kaindu introduced Peter Moyo and Milton Ncube for Bevan Chikaka and Dumisani Ndlovu and coupled by Callisto Pasuwa’s substitution of Alimenda who had a good afternoon.

DeMbare pushed for equaliser but they found Bosso defence of captain innocent Mapuranga and Dumisani Ndlovu unyielding or on some occasions found Diya at his best.

Bosso then paid dearly for time wasting when Jaure scored in the last stages of the game.

And despite not registering a win in five games, Dynamos coach Pasuwa remained hopeful his charges will get it right.

After the game Highlanders players, led by Mthulisi Maphosa, mobbed the referee protesting against his decision.
