Ex-GMB human resources officer up for fraud

HARARE - A former human resources systems operator has been arraigned before the courts for allegedly defrauding the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) of more than $45 000.

Collen Magadaire, 30, would allegedly access funds from GMB ostensibly to pay ghost workers and then deposit the salaries into his and his wife’s bank accounts.

It is the States’ case that during the period extending from 2007 to March 2013, Magadaire was employed by GMB as a human resources systems operator.

His duties at GMB included payment of salaries for GMB employees in Manicaland, engagement and termination of employees in the Paywell system and printing of payslips for all GMB employees.

During the course of his duties Magadaire would use the password ANNA10 to access the Paywell system.

The court heard on different occasions Magadaire would use his password to access the system and went on to misrepresent that the persons mentioned were employed by GMB and allocated them fake employment codes.

Magistrate Tendai Mahwe heard how Magadaire would enter varying salaries for the said persons at different times which would then be deposited into bank accounts.

Magadaire would then allegedly terminate the names of the ghost workers from the Paywell system to avoid the offence being detected.

Police investigations into the offence later revealed that the ghost workers were former GMB Manicaland employees.

Police also revealed that three of the bank accounts used in the commission of the alleged $45 838 offence were his while one belonged to his wife Annie Munyanyi. - Helen Kadirire

I find it unusual how GMB is always being defrauded amounts in the same range or there is something fishy going on there. Someone with some position maybe committing these crimes and then pin it on innocent people. Daiky news- what happened to your investigative journalism. Dig more into GMB claims and also when you publish stories give us feedback about the outcomes. Look at the link below and tell us what happened to this person with a similar case to Magadaire's- how did his case end. In you story you say Magaaire worked till March- what is his testimony- You need to give us his side of the story also. You ending up like The Herald if you dont take this approach http://www.dailynewslive.co.zw/article/News/59ea3f74-dcb7-4635-8645-04509a69e9b0
