Chapman ladies win Wingate tourney

HARARE - Chapman select team won the annual Wingate Park Ladies Golf Tournament after posting a net score of 577 points in Pomona yesterday.

The quartet of Johanna Munhemba, 145, Heidi Schirmer, 140, Melody Chinembiri, 145 and Linda O’Toole, 147 shot the lowest scores in the 36 holes tournament to guide Chapman to victory.

Chapman ladies first team took runners-up position after their four golfers finished with a net score of 594 points, 17 points adrift of their counterparts.

Meanwhile, Wingate ladies golf captain Loice Chingono won the best overall gross winner after a hard fought play-off with Melody Chiwaya and Batsi Tilowakuti.

The trio were tied on first position with a gross score of 163 points after 36 holes but the Zimbabwe ladies team golfer Chingono showed her experience to wade off the challenge in the play-off winning it by three shots.

However, Chingono conceded that she was not at her best during the tournament.

“No I don’t think I played my best because I was the organiser of the tournament as well as the captain of the hosting team,” she said.

“But I was happy I emerged the best individual golfer on the day.”

This year was the sixth edition of the tournament and a total of 15 teams drawn from the country’s leading clubs.
