Matawu re-joins Motor Action

HARARE - Former Zimbabwe international Clement Matawu has resurfaced at former club Motor Action ahead of the upcoming domestic season.

Although he has not yet inked a deal with the Mighty Bulls, the 30-year-old is one of over 50 players currently taking part in the club’s pre-season training at Motor Action Sports Club, with club director Eric Rosen confirming interest in adding the attacking midfielder to their 2013 squad.

Matawu, voted Zimbabwe’s finest footballer back in 2006, tuned out for Motor Action between 2001 and 2009 before signing for Polish top flight side Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala.

The diminutive midfielder will be making a return to competitive football since being released by Polish outfit Polonia Bytom in 2011.

“We have never had any big names signed by the club in our modest footballing history but we are glad we got our son Clement Matawu back,” Rosen told the Daily News yesterday.

“He’s (Matawu) a 2 in 1 player and all I can say is that he’ll be able to make a difference in our team this season. We are not in a rush to conclude deals because we don’t have any Caf deadlines to beat as was the case last season when we played in the Caf Confederation Cup, hence we need to look at ourselves properly before committing ourselves.”

Meanwhile, Rosen revealed that the financially-troubled Harare club is mulling plans to play their home games to Kwekwe or Gweru in an effort to boost revenue.

The 2009 Zimbabwean champions finished in eighth place in the Castle Premiership last season.
