Daily News under siege

HARARE - A group of rowdy youths — purporting to be Zanu PF members — went on rampage tearing copies of the Daily News in Harare’s Kuwadzana suburb yesterday.

The five youths harassed a female vendor selling the popular newspaper, which they branded as an “unwanted element”.

“They approached me and asked to check out headlines but I told them they could only read if they bought a copy.

“They were not amused and began shouting abusive words,” said the visibly shaken vendor.

“I was only saved from a savage beating by other vendors who intervened. The group left but not before tearing copies of the paper,” she said.

While police could not deny nor confirm the incident, a report was made at Kuwadzana Police Station under RRB number 1710267. - Staff Writer
