Prince Edward struggles to beat Gateway

HARARE - Prince Edward School came from behind to beat Gateway High School 61-55 in a Super Seven Harare Basketball League match on Friday.

Guard Charles Wilson (22 points) and Patrick Nhamburo (12 points) were the highest point scorers for PE in an important victory against the visitors.

The two teams went at each other from the onset in a closely fought out match. At the end of the first quarter they were both tied at 13-13.

Gateway dominated the second quarter which ended 26-13 in favour of the visitors.

PE however came back a determined side in the third and fourth quarters to edge Gateway.

PE’s teacher-in-charge of basketball, Sledge Chinyoka, who is also the league’s fixtures director, was pleased with the win.

“We are happy to continue with our winning ways and we are also aiming to win the league title this year,” Chinyoka told the Daily News yesterday.

“We have got a number of experienced players and expect them to make our school proud by winning the title, however, Gateway gave us a good run and we dominated at the last quarter.”

The league comprises seven schools namely Gateway, Churchill, Prince Edward, Cornway College, Heritage, Mufakose 2 and St Johns. - Blessings Mashaya
