Judgment reserved in RioZim case

HARARE - High Court Judge Hlekani Mwayera has reserved judgment in RioZim Limited’s case against Tourism minister Walter Mzembi and his Zanu PF colleagues for disrupting activities at the resources group’s Renco Gold Mine.

In an urgent chamber application, the listed firm accuses the Masvingo South legislator, Irvine Dzingirai, and a Mazombwe of trying to despoil them of the asset — to which the respondents claimed they had not acted “unlawfully or in any manner prejudicial to the applicant or its shareholders”.

In turn, Mzembi and company — through their lawyer Jonathan Samukange — however, said the company was trying to evade a labour dispute and were using them as “scape-goats”.

“No one has tried to take the right of ownership of the Applicant. The Applicant has a dispute with its labour force and that is all,” they said. - Tendai Kamhungira
